Books

Here are my comments on some books that a commonly available. Unless other wise stated I either used, have read, or have reviewed all these books.

The Apostolic Bible This 1st edition of the Apostolic Bible has an excellent inter liner translation, and comes complete with a lexicon. The Greek text is not accented, and a stress mark is used instead. This makes for easy reading, especially reading out loud, which IMO should be the aim of everyone reading the Greek Bible. However the breathings are not included, which makes it a little difficult for beginners. It is however a great buy! Incidently you can download PDF files of both the N.T. and the Septuagint for free from www.apostolicbible.com.
The Analytical Greek Lexicon Revised
by Harold K. Moulton
This is the Lexicon that I have used for years, and although old is still excellent! Second hand copies are available on Amazon. Among other things it has a great Primer in the front.
The Analytical Lexicon to the Greek New Testament.
by William D. Mounce
Although I have not personally 'test driven' this Lexicon, it comes highly recommended.
New Testament Greek Primer
by Alfred Marshall
This Primer is now, sadly, out of print, but several second hand copies can still be found. IMO it is the best Primer for self study.
Parallel New Testament in Greek and English
by Alfred D. Marshall
Abingdons' Strong's exhaustive concordance of the Bible This is admitedly a luxuary, but as youget into your studies of Greek, and especially if you wish to persue Hebrew, then you will find this book indispensible.
Pocket Oxford Classical Greek Dictionary Everyone should own a Classic greek dictionary. Several are available, but this one The Oxford Pocket Dictionary has the advantage of being cheap, and thorough. It has an excellent section on pronunciation; a section on Proper names; a list of common irregular verbs;and best of all it alone of available dictionaries it has an English-Greek section. You will find this particularly helpful when beginning Greek, as you will often want the Greek word for a remembered English biblical phrase.
Basics of Biblical Grammar
William D. Mounce
It is difficult to critisize a book that has sold 100,000 copies! However this book is highly analytical, and I believe it is better for classroom study than individual study. However, if you have the time to really learn the subject, and I mean devoting yourself to about 8 hours a wek for 6-12 months, then this book is definately for you. However it is probably overkill for someone who just wants to be able to read a Greek Interliner!
